ينطلق في العاصمة الرياض يوم 27 يناير 2026 معرض «بدايات: بدايات الحركة الفنية السعودية» في المتحف الوطني السعودي بحي المربع التاريخي، ويستمر حتى 11 أبريل 2026، مقدمًا قراءة توثيقية لمسار الفن السعودي منذ ستينات القرن الماضي وحتى نهاية الثمانينات.
ويستعرض المعرض تطوّر الممارسات الفنية والروح التأسيسية للمشهد التشكيلي في المملكة، من خلال أعمال فنية ووثائق أرشيفية تسلّط الضوء على الجيل الرائد الذي أسهم في تشكيل ملامح الفن الحديث، متتبعًا السياقات الثقافية والفكرية التي صاحبت تلك المرحلة.
ويضم المعرض أعمالًا متنوعة تشمل اللوحات والمنحوتات وأعمال الورق، إلى جانب مواد أرشيفية تُعرض للمرة الأولى، بما يتيح للزوار الاطلاع على بدايات التجارب الفنية السعودية وتحولاتها البصرية. كما يرصد المعرض العلاقة بين التأثيرات الحديثة والخصوصية المحلية التي أسهمت في صياغة هوية فنية متفرّدة.
وينقسم المعرض إلى 3 محاور رئيسية تتناول نشأة حركة الفن الحديث، وتيارات الحداثة، وإسهامات عدد من روّاد الحركة الفنية السعودية، وهم: عبدالحليم رضوي، محمد السليم، منيرة موصلي، وصفية بن زقر، بوصفهم نماذج محورية في تلك المرحلة التأسيسية.
ويصاحب المعرض إصدار مطبوع، وفيلم وثائقي، إضافة إلى برنامج ثقافي يضم جلسات حوارية وورش عمل تناقش التعليم الفني المبكر، ودور المؤسسات، وأهمية توثيق الأرشيف الفني السعودي.
ويأتي معرض «بدايات» ضمن الجهود الرامية إلى توثيق تاريخ الفن السعودي وإتاحته للجمهور والباحثين، بوصفه جزءًا من الذاكرة الثقافية للمملكة ومسارها الفني المتجدد.
The “Beginnings: The Beginnings of the Saudi Art Movement” exhibition will launch in the capital, Riyadh, on January 27, 2026, at the Saudi National Museum in the historic Al-Murabba neighborhood, and will continue until April 11, 2026, providing a documentary reading of the trajectory of Saudi art from the 1960s to the end of the 1980s.
The exhibition showcases the evolution of artistic practices and the foundational spirit of the visual arts scene in the Kingdom, through artworks and archival documents that highlight the pioneering generation that contributed to shaping the features of modern art, tracing the cultural and intellectual contexts that accompanied that period.
The exhibition includes a diverse range of works, including paintings, sculptures, and paper works, alongside archival materials presented for the first time, allowing visitors to explore the beginnings of Saudi artistic experiences and their visual transformations. The exhibition also examines the relationship between modern influences and local particularities that contributed to the formulation of a unique artistic identity.
The exhibition is divided into three main axes that address the emergence of the modern art movement, currents of modernity, and contributions from several pioneers of the Saudi art movement, namely: Abdulhalim Radwi, Mohammed Al-Saleem, Munira Mousli, and Safia Bin Zaqr, as they represent pivotal models in that foundational phase.
Accompanying the exhibition will be a printed publication, a documentary film, in addition to a cultural program that includes discussion sessions and workshops addressing early artistic education, the role of institutions, and the importance of documenting the Saudi artistic archive.
The “Beginnings” exhibition is part of efforts to document the history of Saudi art and make it accessible to the public and researchers, as it is a part of the cultural memory of the Kingdom and its evolving artistic path.
