ساد الصمت المفاجئ داخل غرفة العمليات بمستشفى العبور في مصر، لم يكن هذا الصمت بسبب تعقد الجراحة، بل لأن الجراح نفسه كان يصارع الزمن لمغادرة الحياة وهو يمسك بمشرطه.
كان رئيس قسم الجراحة العامة في المستشفى الدكتور عادل عبد العزيز شاهين يخوض سباقاً دقيقاً لإنقاذ حياة مريض يرقد أمامه. وفي لحظة لم يتوقعها أحد، توقفت عضلة قلب الطبيب فجأة وسقط في موقع عمله. لم تتوقف المعركة هنا، إذ تسلم مساعده المقبض فوراً لإكمال العملية وتأمين حياة المريض، بينما اندفع عدد من أعضاء الفريق الطبي لإنعاش الطبيب ونقله على عجل إلى العناية المركزة.
خاض الطبيب الراحل صراعاً صامتاً مع المرض داخل الرعاية الفائقة استمر 15 يوماً كاملة، أملت فيه أسرته وزملاؤه أن يعود إلى مشرطه وردائه الطبي الأبيض، خصوصاً أن الرجل لم يكن يشكو سابقاً من أي اعتلال صحي. غير أن القصة أغلقت فصلها الأخير بتدهور حالته قبل إعلان وفاة الجرّاح الماهر.
ولم تمض ساعات حتى اتشحت قرية «دقلت» بمحافظة كفر الشيخ بالسواد، حيث خرج المئات من الأهالي والأطباء وعائلات المرضى في مشهد مهيب لتشييع جثمان الطبيب الراحل إلى مقابر أسرته، مودعين رجلاً أخلص لمهنته وأداها بأمانة حتى آخر نبضات قلبه.

In a moment no one expected, the doctor’s heart muscle suddenly stopped, and he collapsed at his workstation. The battle did not end there, as his assistant immediately took over the scalpel to complete the operation and secure the patient’s life, while several members of the medical team rushed to revive the doctor and hurriedly transfer him to intensive care.
The late doctor fought a silent battle with illness in intensive care that lasted a full 15 days, during which his family and colleagues hoped he would return to his scalpel and white medical coat, especially since the man had not previously complained of any health issues. However, the story closed its final chapter with the deterioration of his condition before the announcement of the skilled surgeon’s death.
Within hours, the village of “Daqlt” in Kafr El-Sheikh Governorate donned black, as hundreds of locals, doctors, and patients’ families gathered in a solemn scene to bid farewell to the deceased doctor, saying goodbye to a man who dedicated himself to his profession and performed it faithfully until his last heartbeat.
